The Primary Health Care Centre is Officially Baby Friendly.

Community Dietician Joanna Ledoux, Public Health Manager Bev Hill, Public Health Nurse Loida Agpalza, Board Chair Cal Huntley, Baby Friendly Manitobas Linda Romphf.

For several years the local Breastfeeding Committee and the Northern Health Region Public Health Staff have been working towards achieving Baby Friendly designation from the Breastfeeding Committee for Canada.  Following an accreditation process that designation was awarded Friday at the Primary Health Care Centre. Baby Friendly Manitoba Consultant Linda Romphf says this is a rare event and it is a prestigious award that’s given to those facilities, community or hospital, that meet certain criteria as well as the international code of marketing for breast milk substitutes.  She says what it means is that they are an example of evidence based best practices, you know that when you come here you are going to get the support and the help you need to make the decisions around infant feeding and that you’ll be supported in those decisions.

Flin Flon is only the third Centre in Manitoba to receive this designation along with The Pas and                 Steinbach with Thompson expecting a decision soon.
