Fire Crews Are Struggling With Fires in Northeast Saskatchewan.

Scott Wasylenchuk with the Provincial Wildfire Center in Prince Albert says things are still very dry in the area.  He says smoke caused problems for aircraft fighting the Granite Lake fire that started northeast of Jan Lake.  He says it’s kicking up a little bit in the areas of heavy fuel and it had spotted across yesterday evening and breached highway 106 and they’ve moved heavy equipment in there trying to contain it and get the spot fire that came across the highway.  Otherwise he says crews have been trying to contain the areas they’ve been assigned.  He says they’ve been smoked in most of the morning so they’re just starting to put some of the aircraft out and about.

Wasylenchuk adds fire behavior has been picking up in the afternoon and becoming extreme with fires making runs with the wind.
