Poetry Was the Focus of Part of the Flin Flon City Council Meeting Last Night.

Mayor Cal Huntley officially proclaimed March 21st as World Poetry Day and April as World Poetry Month.  In recognition of that Councilor Bill Hanson read a poem he heard as a child written by local resident Murray McDonald about a prospector Jack McPhee and his attempts to get into Heaven.  Administrator Mark Kolt reported Creighton resident and long time poet Brenda Schmidt has been named Saskatchewan’s Poet Laureate. Her term begins April 1st and runs to December 31st, 2018.

             

Council passed a bylaw to accept the Manitoba Fire Code and Emergency Code as the city Fire Prevention Bylaw.  Councilor Guy Rideout congratulated the City crews for their handling of the recent blizzard with Mayor Huntley noting they kept the main travel routes open so buses could keep running.

             

Councilor Colleen McKee noted our synchronized swimming group the Flin Flon Aqua Doves is the only group in northern Manitoba and they will be taking part in the Crocus Challenge at the Pan Am Pool in Winnipeg April 7th to 9th.
