The Government Needs a Plan For The North.

Flin Flon MLA Tom Lindsey told the Manitoba Legislature this week the government has to do more for people in his riding.  He says people from Flin Flon are proud of where they’re from and have been expressing their concerns.  He says they’re worried about this government’s inaction as hundreds of workers face layoffs as a result of Hudbay’s Triple Seven mine closure and they’re worried as workers lose their jobs at the Port of Churchill as grain shipments have ceased.  He says this government’s order to layoff 900 workers at Manitoba hydro, their continuous attacks on labor and their refusal to raise the minimum wage have made it clear that they’re not on the side of Manitoba workers in the north or the south.

Lindsey says the government needs to give northerners concrete support for economic development along with investment in health care, education and training.
