Posting Signs and Existing Signs Were Part of Last Nights Flin Flon City Council Meeting.

Council gave final reading last night to a bylaw to allow for the regulation of signage on public property.  As we reported after first reading the bylaw refers to signs like those posted on telephone poles.  A permit will be required to post these signs and there will be a fee of 20 dollars reduced to 10 if the sign is to be up for less than seven days.  This bylaw will ensure that signs that are posted are taken down when the event is over.

Mayor Cal Huntley responded to a complaint at their last meeting about an MPI sign beside Rotary Park showing an accident victim with the message don’t drink and drive. He and Council members checked the sign and Mayor Huntley says he feels its there to send a message and he doesn’t find it offensive adding there’s similar messages in television ads.  Administrator Mark Kolt added they had a call from MPI and they have received no complaints from other communities.

And Council gave first reading to an amendment to the standards for maintenance of residential property bylaw that allows a maintenance notice to be posted on a building or property if it cannot be served or mailed to the owner and sets a minimum period for response.
