Flin Flon City Council had applied for a four year extension to the Special Services Levy they brought in last year. A Municipal Board hearing was held here in May and after reviewing what was presented the Board has approved the City’s application. The Levy will cover police and fire services for 2015 to18 inclusive removing them from the general tax rolls so all property owners equally share the cost. The Levy will be 598 dollars this year rising by up to three percent a year for the next three years.
The Board say its clear from evidence presented that Council, backed through research and visionary thinking, has taken on the challenge of responding to competing economic development pressures in the surrounding area with the best interests of all its citizens at heart. They add the status-quo arguments of those in objection do not consider alternative solutions to the City’s economic challenges so in that regard it is the Board’s view that the City’s argument is the stronger one.
