An Organization That Did a Lot of Studies in this Area Says Thanks.

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization will recognize communities that actively participated in recently concluded preliminary assessment studies for Canada’s deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel in the Creighton area.  Creighton, Denare Beach and Flin Flon will each be recognized with an investment of 250 thousand dollars toward their community well being.  Their Manager of Communications Mike Krizanc says the communities worked well together in the process.  He says Denare Beach and Flin Flon as neighbors to Creighton invited them into their communities, they hosted their used fuel transportation container exhibit and from the beginning they participated in the Community Liaison Committee that was set up in Creighton and met on a monthly basis.

The Organizations study showed limited potential for finding a suitable site in the Creighton area.

Each community will be required to establish a Community Well-Being Reserve Fund or similar mechanism to administer the funding.
