Picket Lines are up at Hudbay.

Members of the community gathered for hot dogs at noon today as members of the International Association of Machinists Local 1848 set up a picket line on Church Street at the staff house as they began strike action against Hudbay. They were joined by members of other union in the community. Additional picket lines will be set up through the weekend at the Triple Seven turnoff and near Snow Lake at the Lalor Mine turnoff, the mill concentrator turnoff and on the highway at Reed mine.

The Union agreed to strike action when their outstanding language issues were not addressed in negotiations and the wage enhancements were not what they had hoped for.

Hudbay Vice-President of the Manitoba Business Unit Rob Winton has said they will continue to operate with a contingency plan in place to ensure the safety of their employees.
