The Future of our City was Debated Last Night

The Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce hosted a debate with the candidates for Mayor with Mayor George Fontaine and Cal Huntley attending. Candidate Robin James was not present.

When asked their three priorities Fontaine said maintaining the services we have now in terms of infrastructure and recreation adding we have a lot of things other communities our size do not have, involvement of our neighboring communities and cottage areas to work together to maintain our services and maintaining a good working environment for their city workforce.

Huntley listed responsible, reasonable and understandable taxation and using every dollar as effectively as possible, taking a more planned approach to infrastructure renewal and establishing or re-establishing favorable relationships with all stakeholders including lobbying the province for much needed support around seniors housing, infrastructure, recreation facilities and economic diversification.

Other questions included the use of the hotel tax, the future of recreation facilities, a base tax versus a service fee, possible use of social media to distribute information, seniors housing with provincial support and both agreed this is still a safe community.
