There are Problems at Triple Seven Mine

Hudbay’s Director of Corporate Communications has released a statement on the shutdown of operations at Triple Seven Mine in Flin Flon.  It states on Monday at Triple Seven Mine the ore conveyance became lodged in the main production shaft.  It occurred at a time that did not affect the employees on shift from coming to surface.  Their main concern is safety and they are working in conjunction with the Mines Inspector to return the shaft to full function.  They assess progress on a daily basis and based on the information today they anticipate repairs will be completed in a few more days.  Identifying the cause is part of that process.

The statement continues normal underground operations have been halted but underground shaft repairs are being done by their employees in conjunction with their Health and Safety teams and the Mines Branch.  Employees will go underground once the shaft has been safely secured.

They are exploring potential options to redeploy employees who cannot go underground during the repairs.  In the meantime the Flin Flon concentrator continues to treat ore from Reed and Triple Seven North and the zinc plant is drawing on a large quantity of stockpiled concentrate.
