A Special Art Exhibit Opened in Flin Flon Today

Walking With Our Sisters is a commemorative art installation exhibit to honor missing and murdered indigenous women and girls. This international touring exhibit opened in Flin Flon at ten this morning in the Elks Hall.  The exhibit runs until July 5th and is open Monday to Friday from 12 to 8 and Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 4.

The art installation is made up of more than 17 hundred pairs of moccasin tops that have been created by 1372 caring and concerned people from around the world to honor and pay respect to the lives and existence of the missing and murdered indigenous women and girls across North America.  Each pair of moccasin tops represents an indigenous women or girl who is missing or murdered.

According to the most recent data 1181 indigenous women and girls have gone missing or been murdered in Canada in the past 30 years and it is suspected the actual numbers are much higher.
