There a Service to Help With Employee Skills

Barb Link and Colleen McKee from WEST or the Workplace Essential Skills Training Center told the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce yesterday essential skills are needed in today’s workforce as employers want workers to increase their skill levels.  McKee says WEST which is part of Workplace Education Manitoba can help employers and for businesses in the local area the opportunity is two fold.  She says number one they provide needs assessments and essential skills training for employers to be able to implement with their employees and they offer individualized training for people who just want to upskill.  She adds they can drop in at 51 Main Street and they’re open Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 7:30.

McKees says employers benefit by having among other things lower employee turnover, reduced absenteeism and a higher skilled workforce. She adds people trained in the north tend to stay in the north.

Bunny Burke reminded Chamber members the flowers should be out on Main Street today and businesses are encouraged to water them.

The Chambers next general meeting will be on September 9th.
