Help Will be Available in Time of Disaster

A new Personal Disaster Assistance Team is being formed in Flin Flon by the Canadian Red Cross.  Their lead for planning and response in Manitoba Cailin Hodder says the team is made up of local volunteers and this team would respond to local disasters in communities within about a one hundred mile radius and these are personal disasters so they’re not large scale disasters like forest fires or floods, they’re house fires or sewage backup where resident still need assistance but it’s on a much lower scale.  She says they would go out and support them for a 72 hour time period and that would allow them to get other resources in place.

The Red Cross is looking for volunteers locally.  You can get involved by visiting their website www.redcross.ca or contact Leslie Beck at 204-271-1923.
