Because going for boat rides, fishing, and water activities are popular ways to enjoy a northern Manitoba summer, it’s important to be safe in the water. That means observing responsible boat-operator practices, wearing personal flotation devices, and not drinking while boating.
A spokesperson for the Manitoba Coalition for Safer Waters says a hundred lives a year would be saved in Canada if every boater took basic safety precautions.
Boaters are also reminded they must have a craft operator’s competency card. Courses can be taken through classes provided by the Lifesaving Society in Manitoba or a number of online providers.
