Kodiaks Win Season Opener

It was a great start to the season for the Creighton Kodiak 6 Man Football team who won a nail biter 37 to 35 over the St Brieux Crusaders  this past Friday at the Creighton Field of Dreams.

It was a game that went back and forth all day long and literally went down to the very last play.

The Kodiaks made a big stop on defense with just over two minutes remaining and used the momentum to put the winning drive together.

Matthew Lavis was able to haul in a 30 yard touchdown pass from Rylan Gunrud with just 25 seconds remaining and it looked like Creighton was well on their way to picking up the victory.

Saying that,  the Kodiaks took some penalties and St Brieux with no time left on the clock aired the ball down the field for the Hail Mary and completed the reception at the 5 yard line. Creighton made the tackle and pushed the St Brieux player back and were able to hang on for the win.

This was one of the most exciting victories in Creighton Kodiak Football history and a great way to start the season.

Deakon Anaka  led the way offensively with three touchdowns, with Rylan Gunrud and Deagon  Long  both finding their way to the end zone as well.

Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk summed up the win. " The fourth quarter was very entertaining and that is one of those wins or losses that can spearhead your season. This was a game that we really needed a win  psychologically. All our players played both ways and a loss like that could of really hurt our season. Now we get a chance to rest up  and get ready for another big one here."

The Kodiaks will now get a week off and will play their next game in Carrot River under the lights on Friday September the 25th at 8pm Manitoba time.Creighton will play their next home game on Friday October the 2nd VS Lanigan.
