The Flin Flon Bombers just seem to be a team of destiny and are hitting their stride at the right time. In front of over 1000 fans at the Whitney Forum last night the Bombers polished off Laronge 6-1 and have punched their ticket to the post season.

 

Austin Calladine scored the game winner 1:06 into the second period for his team leading 17th of the season, with other Bomber goals coming from: Evans(12), Allison(5),Pederson(10) and a pair from Bucsis his 6th and 7th. Bucsis obviously gets up to play Laronge, five of his seven goals this year have come against the Ice Wolves.

 

Flin Flon will grab the no.10 seed and looks like they will be facing off with the Estevan Bruins in the Survivor series which should start this weekend. The Bruins took three out of four from Flin Flon this season, but you can totally throw that out the window. The Bombers are a lot different team now and are playing with lots of confidence and for one another.

 

Mike Reagan said on the CFAR Post Game Show last night, that he feels he now has a team, not a team of individuals. It took a lot of guts to move some of their impact guys at the deadline , but Mike knew what he was doing and you can see that with the effort of his team. Not to mention all the futures coming back in return, setting up this club very good for the next two seasons.

 

I don't know if I have ever felt a vibe like I do right now about this team. This is a special group, and the word from the players is the locker room has never been better. You also get the sense that this team is just not satisfied making the playoffs, but feel they can go on a long run.

 

I love the Estevan matchup and to my recollection, this would be the first playoff meeting between these two clubs since the WCHL days. Estevan is a very good team and have flown under the radar most of this season. Austin Daae has won the scoring race with 71 points and they have other good offensive players in Froese, Sagan and Johnstone. They also have a very good goalie in Matt Gibney who I think is very under rated.

 

This should be one of the more fun series to watch and Flin Flon may have the advantage in travel as they are used to long bus rides all year and don't seem to be phased about an 11 hour bus ride. Word is Estevan is not thrilled about the long travel situation and are not crazy about playing Flin Flon in this series. This was one of the concerns from teams about trying this new playoff format, you could end up with a very tough travel schedule.

 

A big thanks to everyone who came out and wore pink last night for the "Hockey Fights Cancer" promotion. It was only the second time that there were over 1000 fans at the Forum this season, and I know the hocley club really appreciated it.

 

The Bombers will close out the regular season Tuesday in Melfort, which will be a nothing game for both teams,  the Bombers cannot move up from tenth spot and the Mustangs clinched the Sherwood crown with a win over Nipawin 6-1 last night.
