Bombers Host Mustangs

After a five day break the Flin Flon Bombers prepare for the Melfort Mustangs at the Whitney Forum tonight. This will be the sixth meeting of the season between the two clubs, with the Mustangs winning three of the previous five meetings.

Flin Flon has won both meetings at the Whitney Forum and usually play the Mustangs pretty well. Melfort won the last meeting at the Northern Lights Palace by a score of 6-3 on January the 22nd.

The Bombers continue to struggle in 2014 with only two wins in their last twelve games. Melfort is 7-3 in their last ten and have over taken Nipawin for top spot in the Sherwood Conference with 48 points.

Flin Flon remains in the basement of the league, with their playoff hopes fading fast. The Bombers are 17-27-0-2 36 points which has them at 47 points and seven points behind Notre Dame for the last playoff spot.  Both teams have played 46 games and have ten remaining in the season.

The Mustangs have a lot of fire season, coming to town with the league's second best offense and 147 goals for. Only Melville has scored more. Melfort is led by veteran Anthony Pickering who leads his team with 43 points, and rookie sensation Travis Mayan who leads all rookies in points with 36.

The Bombers continue to struggle putting the puck in the net with a league low 108 goals scored. Flin Flon was outscored 22-5 on their last road trip when they went 1-3.

Austin Evans has been a bright spot for the Bombers since coming over from the Battlefords January the tenth, and had his best night as a Bomber January the 29th against Notre Dame. Evans scored a pair of goals in regulation and added a third in the shoot out. He is a guy that brings it every night.

No broadcast tonight, but we will be in Laronge for a must win tomorrow night at the Mel Hegland Uniplex. The Ice Wolves are three points up on Flin Flon and are also struggling with only two wins in their last ten games. Scoring isn't Laronge's problem, keeping the puck out of their own net is. Laronge is a league worst 190 goals against.

Flin Flon leads the season series 2-1. The Ice Wolves won the most recent meeting 4-1, January the 11th at the Whitney Forum.

If the playoffs were to start tomorrow, these would be the two teams on the outside looking in. Make sure you join us on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com, with the Murray GM Coach's Show at 7:15PM.
