Heartbreaker At The Forum

Mike Reagan said it was the most difficult loss in his Bomber tenure as coach. The Flin Flon Bombers looked poised to snap their five game losing streak Saturday night against the red hot Battleford North Stars.

Flin Flon who lost 3-0 on Friday quickly grabbed a 2-0 lead on goals by Chartrand and Soubry, before the game was even three minutes old. It looked like the Bombers were going to chase Battleford goaltender Darren Martin from the game, but he settled down and the North Stars got on track.

Battleford led it 3-2 in the third before Austin Calladine would score a five on three powerplay goal to tie the game with less than four minutes remaining in regulation.

The Northstars had other ideas and retook the lead when McColgen grabbed the puck and danced around three Bombers before firing a low wrist shot past Simon Hofley low blocker side to put the Stars up 4-3.

Flin Flon kept pressing but could not get the equalizer and dropped their sixth straight game, and certainly deserved a lot better than what they got. It is the Battleford's 11th straight win.

Mike Reagan joined me on the Murray GM Post Game Report and had a hard time keeping the tears away in an absolute heartbreaker that shook the whole building.

" I  don't know what it is going to take to get a win, I thought we would at least get this game to ot, I am absolutely speechless right now." " These guys are absolutely heart broken  and I don't know if I have ever experianced a loss that has affected me like this."

The Bombers will have to try and shake this off and don't have a lot of time to prepare for their next game as they hit the road for four games in five night's starting tomorrow in Yorkton.

The Terriers are the defending league champs and are playing a little better going 6-3-1 in their last ten. They have beat the Bombers in both meetings this season including a 5-2 win in Flin Flon January the 17th.

Flin Flon needs wins and are starting to fade in the playoff race. Entering play tomorrow the Bombers are five points behind Laronge, Weyburn and Notre Dame for the final playoff spots. Remember the top ten overall get in. so Flin Flon will have to surpass two of these three teams.

The Bombers will play both the Wings and Hounds on this trip and pretty much need to win both those games to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Brock Hounsell is seeing a doctor Monday and Mike Reagan is really hoping he will be back in the lineup Tuesday. Flin Flon has been playing with five defensemen and will not have Cole Nichols in the lineup, who is out with a lower back injury.

No matter what happens 102.9 CFAR will have all four games from this road trip from Notre Dame Wednesday, Weyburn Friday and Estevan Saturday. It all starts in Yorkton tomorrow with the Murray GM Coach's Show at 7:15 and play by play at 7:30.

Mike Stackhouse will be joining me with his word of wisdom on colour commentary as we turn things up a notch from the Farrell Agencies Arena. It is always a lot of fun calling games with Mike and i Don't expect tomorrow night to be any differant, so hopefully you will be able to listen in.
