Bombers Ready For 2014

The Flin Flon Bombers are ready to hit the ice for the first time in 2014, when they host Notre Dame at the Whitney Forum for the final time this season.

The Bombers took it to the Hounds 7-1 at the Forum on October the 25th.

This will be the Bombers first game since December the 21st, and are back on the ice after a 13 day layoff. The Hounds played their first game of the new year a 4-0 loss in Nipawin last night.

Flin Flon is in third spot in a very tight Sherwood Division, two points behind second place Melfort and four points behind the Hawks. Laronge is only one point behind Flin Flon.

The Bomber, Hounds matchup is a big one, with the new playoff format this year. The top ten teams overall get in, with the top two teams in each division getting a bye and the bottom four teams playing a Survivor series.

If the playoffs were to start tomorrow, Weyburn and Notre Dame would miss the playoffs and the Bombers would  play Laronge in the Survivor series, so this is a big game tonight.

One thing in the Hounds favour, thay have played the least amount of games in the league with 32.

Flin Flon and Notre Dame both continue to struggle to score goals. Coming into tonight The Hounds have scored 82 in 32 games, and Flin Flon has scored 83 in 34 games. These two teams have scored the least amount of goals in the SJHL.

With the January tenth trade deadline looming, and a very tight playoff race, it will be interesting to see if these teams will be buying or selling.

I chatted with Mike Reagan yesterday, and he is keeping his cards pretty close to his chest. " This is a tough decision here, because we are .500 against the best four teams in the league." " We think we have some good pieces in place, and we think if we could add a couple key guys, it could put us in the running." "There isn't anybody who scares us in the league, but in saying that we have to be realistic about our record right now, and we are going to entertain both sides of the fence."

Both teams need a win, and this should be a jim dandy tonight with our first Bomber broadcast of 2014 on 102.9 FM CFAR and flinflononline.com.

We hit the air at 7:10 with the Murray GM Coach's Show , drop of the puck 7:30 at the fabulous Whitney Forum.

Happy New Year
