Bombers 4 Wings 1

All the offense came in the third period as the Flin Flon Bombers were able to pick up their third win of the season as they downed the Weyburn Red Wings 4-1.

The usual suspects scored the goals for Flin Flon as Dillan McCombie scored a pair and continues to lead the team with 5. Blair scored his third and Boehm picked up his second.
One of McCombie's goals was short handed and is the Bombers first short handed goal this season.

This trio continues to do most of the scoring for Flin Flon as they have accounted for 10  of the 14 goals this team has scored so far this year.

Friday was a game that young goaltender Simon Hofley will never forget. Hofley made his first ever SJHL start and had one of the most successful debuts for a Bomber goaltender that I have ever seen.

Hofley stopped 46 out of 47 Weyburn shots and looked like he may actually get a shut out as he kept the Wings at bay until the 16:48 mark of the third period.

Former Bomber Kyle Oleniuk scored on the powerplay to ruin Hofley's shutout bid.

So the Bomber record stands at 3-3 after the weekend 4th in the Sherwood Division ,1 point behind Nipawin. The Bombers do have 4 games in hand on the Hawks. Flin Flon has games in hand on everyone in the Sherwood Division as they prepare for their first big road trip of the season.

The Bombers will play 4 games in 5 nights which will start tonight against the Melville Millionaires who are off to a great start at 5-2-1-1. Melville has scored 32 goals so far which has them ranked first in the SJHL on offense.  Their 28 against has them ranked 9th,only Weyburn, Battleford and Nipawin have given up more goals.

The two teams split their 4 games last season and seem to bring out the best in each other. A lot of people would love to see these two teams play in the league final against each other , as all their games seem to be great end to end with lots of action and a very good intensity.

Who knows with the new playoff format , maybe this will be the year.

Mike Reagan the Bomber Head Coach is looking forward to the road trip.

"This is a hard league to win on the road, we have the toughest road schedule of anybody." We were able to get some confidence with our win Friday and I think it is going to be very good for us to get out on the road." The better you feel about your game the better you play."

The Bombers will be in Estevan weds, day off Thursday , hit Weyburn Friday, Notre Dame Saturday.

All four games broadcast on CFAR-590 and flinflononline.com starting each night with the Murray GM Coach's Show at 8:10.
