It was a game for the ages, as the Flin Flon Bombers finally found a way to knock off the Melfort Mustangs in the Canterra Seeds Cup Final in a dramatic 4 to 3 OT win last night.
Facing elimination, down three games to none the Bombers came out to play with their backs against the wall.
Captain Justin Lies opened the scoring when he converted a 2 on 1 with Carter Anderson who fed him the perfect pass and he went in to beat James Venne low glove side.
Flin Flon built off the momentum and scored a couple quick goals in the second period with Jacob Vockler and Anthony Piccininno both finding the back of the net.
It looked the Bombers were in control, but this Melfort Mustang team is deep and have been almost flawless in the league final.
The Mustangs chipped away and mounted a comeback courtesy of a couple of goals from Ryan Duguay, including the tieing goal with just over a minute left in regulation.
Flin Flon also took a late penalty that carried over to over time and the Mustangs certainly had stolen the momentum and looked very good going into the extra period.
First order of business was to kill the Mustang powerplay, and the Bombers did just that as they slowly got back on track.
Both teams traded some good scoring chances before the pride of Lanigan Saskatchewan Kylynn Olafson drove to the net and beat James Venne for his second of the playoffs and the biggest goal of his career.
This was poetic justice as Venne absolutely robbed Olafson in game three the night earlier and the Bombers also dropped that game, a heartbreaker in doulble ot.
It was a controversial offside that led to the winner but I think it may have really motivated the Bombers going into the elimination game.
Harmon Laser Hume who had the biggest bulls eye on his chest entering this game was fantastick and came up with a couple really big saves early in overtime including a highlight reel glove save.
Harmon was really good both nights in Melfort and I have said many times before, any time the Bombers have needed him to step up and have a good game he has delivered.
Laser Hume stopped 43 out of 46 while Venne was good again with 42 saves on 46 shots.
Long story short, the Bombers will live to play another day and will host game 5 at the Whitney Forum tomorrow night. It should be an absolute mad house and I am really hoping we can cram in over 2000 people.
If Flin Flon can pull out the win tomorrow they would be right back in the series and some of the pressure would make it's way to the Mustangs.
