The Flin Flon Bombers have drawn first blood in their SJHL Semi Final Series with the Battleford Stars.

 

It was very close, but the Bombers pulled out the 4 to 3 victory, due in large part to the play of their home town captain Justin Lies.

 

Lies scored a pair of powerplay goals including the game winner just over 5 minutes into the final period. Lies took a nice pass from Jacob Vockler behind the Battleford net and beat Logan Cunningham five hole to whip the huge crowd into a frenzy.

 

Flin Flon also got goals from Anthony Bax and Matt Egan, while SJHL Goalie Of The Year, Harmon Laser Hume stopped 20 out of 23 for his fifth straight win in the playoffs.

 

Logan Cunningham was brilliant for the Stars and put on a clinic and ended up with an amazing 55 saves on 59 shots. Despite being out played for much of the night, Cunningham showed what a hot goalie could do and almost stole last night's game.

 

The Stars goals came from Ben Portner who had two on the powerplay and Hunter Burgeson.

 

Both team's powerplays were good with Battleford going 2 for 3 and Flin Flon 2 for 5.

 

The Bombers also did a good job containing league MVP Kian Bell to one assist, who I expect will be a lot better tonight.
