Bombers Wrap Up Pre-Season And Make Moves

The Flin Flon Bombers dropped a 3-1 decision to the MJHL'S OCN Blizzard on Friday night.

The game was quite chippy in the beginning with both teams making regular visits to the penalty box. Things seemed to settle down after an early second period tilt between Cameron Blair and Wilson Dumais who were both ejected from the game. Dumais had already been in the penalty box 4 times before the fight early in the second.

TJ Constant opened up the scoring with a power play goal 34 seconds into the second period. Local product Dillian McCombie answered with a power play goal of his own early in the third to tie the game at 1. That was McCombie's fifth goal of the pre season.

That is the only puck that would beat Alex Henry who would close the door the rest of the way stopping 20 out of 21 Bomber shots in the third period. Keeper and Valiquette would score insurance goals for the Blizzard in the third to pick up their first pre season victory.

Final shots favoured Flin Flon 41-27. Henry was the difference and was the game's first star. Power plays finished up Flin Flon 1 for 10 and OCN 1 for 8.

The Bombers were busy after the game completing a number of deals.

The big trade was veteran blueliner Tanner Clark and rookie defenseman Keifer Schaufler to OCN for former Kindersley Klipper Sean Whelan. Whelan was dealt to OCN a few days earlier but did not want to report.

Whelan dressed for Kindersley 32 games last year where he picked up 3 assists. He also has Western Hockey League experience with the Regina Pats where he dressed for 11 games.

The Bombers also dealt rookie forward Evan Patrick to Dauphin of the MJHL for futures.

Rookie Brent Aiken was dealt to Winkler for futures.

Veteran forward Greg Wiwcharuk traded to North Bay of the NOJHL for futures.

Local product Zach Garrett was released and is expected to be picked up by a Junior B team.

Flin Flon finishes the pre season at 3-3 where they scored 29 goals and gave up 15 and will open up the SJ regular season this weekend with a home and home with Melfort.

The first game is in Melfort Friday with the home opener at the Whitney Saturday. Both games on CFAR-590 and flinflononline.com. Don't forget Fridays game is an 8: 30 MB start time. We will be on the air with the Murray GM Coach's Show at 8:10.
