Bombers Take 5 Out Of 6 Points

It wasn't their prettiest road trip but the Flin Flon Bombers picked up a possible 5 out of 6 points including a 4 to 2 victory over the Yorkton Terriers yesterday afternoon.

The Bombers once again started slow giving up a goal just 27 seconds into the opening period. One of Yorkton's big snipers, Clay Sleeva pounced on a loose puck in front of the Bomber net to beat Harmon Laser Hume.

The Terriers kept coming and were awarded a 5 minute powerplay when Matt Egan got ejected from the game for a high hit. Aidan Knutson re-directed a shot in front of the Bomber net to pick up his team leading 10th of the season.

Yorkton led 2 to 0 and looked like they were in control, but the Bombers who have the number one powerplay in the league took advantage of their opportunities and ended up going 3 for 5 on the day with a pair from Noah Houle and Liam Bridger scored his fourth of the season.

Captain Justin Lies seeled the deal and  added a empty net goal with just 21 seconds left in the game for his 19th of the season. That ties him with Ryan Duguay of the Melfort Mustangs for the league lead.

Lies also added an assist and now leads the league with 38 points on the year in 22 games and had a 3 point game in a 4 to 3 win over the Terriers on Friday night. He received a game misconduct late Friday and didn't suit up against Melville on Saturday.

The Bombers could of used him and dropped their second game of the season to Melville 2 to 1 in OT.

Both Flin Flon Bomber goalies were nothing  short of fantastick and were the biggest reasons that Flin Flon was able to come home with 5 out of a possible 6 points.

On Friday,  Harmon Laser Hume was able to come into the game in relief of Kenny Marquart and stopped all 21 shots fired in his direction. Laser Hume was good again yesterday finishing up with 21 saves on 23 shots.

Marquart started against Melville on Saturday and was razor sharp making 31 saves on 33 shots and was the best player on the ice making many brilliant saves including a couple beauties in OT.

All in all, the Bombers have to be happy with the results and improve their record to a league best 20-1-2 and are once again the number one team in the nation for the fifth straight week.

Flin Flon is 7-0-1 in November and have a big week coming up. The Bombers will play 3 games this week all at home with Melfort in town on Wednesday, Yorkton here Friday and the Humboldt Broncos who are back at the Whitney Forum for the third time on Saturday.

We will broadcast Saturday's game on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
