Bombers Impress At The Showcase

The Flin Flon Bombers have been ranked the number one team in Canada the last three weeks and they sure looked like it at the SJHL Showcase in Warman.

On Monday,  after spotting Weyburn the first goal the Maroon and White Express score eight unanswered for the 8 to 1 victory.

Among the highlights was the first career SJHL hat-trick from Carter Anderson who scored all three of his goals on the powerplay.

Justin Lies had a strong game picking up two more goals with Adam McNutt, Koen Senft and Alexi Sylvestre rounding out the scoring.

Kenny Marquart was back between the pipes and stopped 18 out of 19 for his 6th win of the season. Marquart' s numbers continue to be outstanding  with a .937 save % plus a 1.70 gaa.

Flin Flon took over right where they left off on Tuesday and reeled off 6 straight goals enroute to a 6 to 1 win against trhe Estevan Bruins.

Bomber Captain Justin Lies scored just 3:57 into the opening frame and Flin Flon never looked back with Jacob Vockler picked up his team leading 13th and 14th of the year.  Carter Anderson also found the back of the net twice  for his 11th and 12th and was one of the top players at the Showcase with 5 goals in two games.

Anthony Piccininno scored the other Bomber goal for his 7th of the season.

Harmon Laser Hume was just 48 seconds away from picking up his second shut-out of the year. Felix Howard was able to sneak a shot past Hume from the blue line on a 5 on 3 powerplay for the Bruins only goal of the game.

After the two Showcase wins the Bombers are a staggering 16-1-1 and will finally return to home ice to face the Humboldt Broncos this weekend.

Humboldt is a top tier team and are very good defensively giving up a league best 40 goals against in 18 games. They did lose to Melville 4 to 3 today for just their second regulation loss of the season.

This should be a really good test for Flin Flon who lead the league in goals with 98 in 18 games. This is the match up the whole hockey world has been looking forward to.

We will have the Friday broadcast on FLO TV and back on radio Saturday with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and drop of the puck at 7:30.
