Mills End The Bombers Winning Streak

You knew it had to end  some time, but the Flin Flon Bombers were hoping to keep it going a little bit longer as they saw their 12 game winning streak come to an end on Saturday.

The Melville Millionaires were in town and came as advertized as one of the best defensive teams in the SJHL. Only the Humboldt Broncos have given up less goals than Melville this year.

On Friday,  Melville battled the Bombers hard dropping a 3 to 2 decision and were very happy with their game and took that into the rematch on Saturday.

Carter Anderson, Anthony Piccininno and Alexi Sylvestre scored the Flin Flon goals on Friday. Sylvestre now leads the SJHL in points with 24 which is one more than team mate Jacob Vockler.

Saturday, the Mills broke out of the gate quick and were actually up 3 to 0 after  two periods on goals by Kole Keen, Flynn Macxy and Liam Cox Smith.

The Bombers couldn't get anything by goaltender Ethan Rau and it looked like he might actually be able to shut them out.

Flin Flon  came out and played very hard in the third period and almost pulled this one out,  firing 20 shots on Rau and did manage to beat him a couple of times.

Adam McNutt scored his first in a Bomber uniform blasting a short handed goal on a quick rush inside the Melville zone. That sparked his team and the Bombers got a late powerplay and pulled the goalie to go 6 on 4.

Carter Anderson took a nice pass from Jacob Vockler behind the Melville net and he scored his 6th to send the Whitney into a frenzy.

Flin Flon kept pressing with just over a minute remaining in regulation but just couldn't get the equalizer and Melville hung on for the win.

The Bombers peppered Rau with 46 shots while the Mills made the most of their opportunities beating Laser Hume 3 times on 15 shots.

Despite the loss it was one of the most impressive Octobers in Bomber history which saw them go 10-1.

Flin Flon remains in top spot in the league at 13-1-1, 4 points up on Humboldt.

The Bombers will get another good test this week as the Melfort Mustangs make their way to town on Thursday, and beat Flin Flon in a shoot out on opening weekend.

No broadcast of this game but we will broadcast both games from the Showcase on November the 13th and 14th.
