Bombers Drop First Two In The Battlefords

Things did not go according to plan in game's one and two of the Canterra Seeds Cup for the Flin Flon Bombers.

The Maroon and White made their way to the Battlefords to take on one of the top teams in the country the Battleford Stars,  and were on the wrong end of scores of 5 to 2 and 3 to 0.

On Friday Flin Flon got a big break when standout goalie Josh Kotai threw  a puck away in the corner which was intercepted by Kylynn Olafson,  who flipped the puck over his left shoulder to get the Bombers on the board early.

Unfortunately the Bombers have only managed to score one more goal in the next 5 periods and offensive chances are few and far between.

I will say that the Bombers despite being shut out on Saturday, did play better in the second game and did have more chances in front of the Battleford net.

Friday's game did take a turn for the worse  when Captain Lucas Fry got cut by a skate. The good news is both the Bomber's and Star's trainer's got on it quickly and Fry got to the hospital right away  and got surgery on Saturday.

In a first class move the Bombers hung Fry's jersey on their bench Saturday and Fry actually made it to the rink to cheer his team on in the second period.

The series will shift to Flin Flon for games three and four this Friday and Saturday and the Bombers need to find a way to get to Josh Kotai. You can see how this guy was named the top SJHL goaltender from this past season,  as he has been sensational in making 61 out of 63 saves in the two games.

Harmon Laser Hume continued his fine play in making 59 saves in the two games and is one of the big reasons the Bombers are in the final. Without Harmon on Friday, the score would of been much worse.

The Bombers also need to get their big guns going as Cole Duperreault, Jeaden Mercier, Jacob Vockler and Jeremi Tremblay have all been held at bay and haven't got a lot of chances.

The Bombers are hoping the home town faithful will help turn the series around just like they did when the Bombers were down 2 game to none against the Stars last year.

One thing about this group is they have faced adversity all year and this group will never quit and a win on Friday coud turn this whole thing around.

Don't forget to pick up your tickets at the Bomber office this week Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 1 to 5 at the office on Main street.

You can also catch both games on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com with the Great North GM Coach's Show both night's at 7:10.
