Bombers Hang On For 1-0 Win

It was a goaltending battle of the ages as the Flin Flon Bombers and Humboldt Broncos met last night in game three of the SJHL Semi- Final.

The series was shifted to the Whitney Forum and I was fully expecting Humboldt to come out and play their best game of the series down two games to none.

They came out flying and the Bombers were back on their heels for much of the first period and looked like they would be down a goal.

Ben Kotylak looked like he put the puck in just under the bar on Harmon Laser Hume, but the referee ruled that a Bronco player was in the crease and disallowed the goal.

The Bronco's were obviously disappointed but continued to carry the play.

Out shooting the Bombers 28 to 24 through two periods, Harmon Laser Hume was outstanding and stopped three clear cut break aways including a short handed chance by Maddox Amaril.

Heading into the third period you could sense that one goal was going to be enough to win the game either way and the Bombers got another big break.

Alexi Sylvestre was heading down  the ice on a two on one and tried to flip the puck to Jacob Vockler. Humboldt defenseman Noah Barlage raced back to break up the play but unfortunately re-directed the puck into his own net.

The Bombers grabbed the 1-0 lead and Laser Hume did the rest stopping all 40 Humboldt shots for his first ever SJHL playoff shut-out.

Bemjamin Motew was also fantastik for the Broncos and made one of the nicest saves of the playoffs when he robbed the Bombers Ethan Mercer late in the game. Motew stopped 34 out of 35 Flin Flon shots.

Head Coach and GM of the Bombers Mike Reagan was on the CFAR Post Game Show last night and mentioned that it wasn't the prettiest of games and feels his team can still play a lot better.

Flin Flon will take the 1 to 0 win and are now up three games to none with a chance to close out the Semi- Final on home ice tonight.

Expect another big flurry by the Bronco's who have nothing to lose now with their backs definitely against the wall.

It was a costly win for Flin Flon who saw both Matt Egan and Jeremi Tremblay leave the game early last night. Mike Reagan says they will be evaluated today.

Don't forget to pick up your tickets for game four tonight at the Bomber Office on Main Street between 1 and 5.

We are also back with another installment of Creighton Furniture Flin Flon Bomber Playoff Hockey with the Pre-game at 7:10 and puck drop at 7:30.
