Bombers Take Both Games In Humboldt

For what ever reason, the Flin Flon Bombers love playing playoff  games at the Elgar Petersen Arena in Humboldt.

The two clubs kicked off their best of 7 SJHL Semi Final this past weekend and the Maroon and White Express took both games by scores of 4 to 3 and 5 to 2.

Don't let the two scores fool you, the Broncos have played very well and seem to have the puck 70 % of the time, but the Bomber big gunners are coming through.

On Friday, Alexi Sylvestre, Alex Von Sprecken, Ethan Mercer and Jacob Vockler all found the back of the net.

The Bombers actually built up a 4 to 1 lead after 2 and managed to hang on. Humboldt was all over Flin Flon in the third out shooting them 17 to 8 and if the game would of went a few extra minutes the Broncos may have pulled it out.

Cage Newans led the way for the Bronco's with a pair of powerplay goals.

I was expecting Humboldt to come out flying on Saturday and they did exactly that. They got an early powerplay and fired a shot off the post and then the cross bar and the Bombers were able to weather the storm and settle in.

Once again they got the first goal when Cole Duperreault fired a shot off the glass and it hit netminder Ben Motew in the back and went in. It looked like Jacob Vockler actually  knocked it in mid air,  but it was confirmed that Duperreault scored the goal.

Flin Flon then went on to build a 3 to 0 lead on two powerplay goals from Kylynn Olafson and Cole Duperreault's second of the game, when he fired a laser beam past Motew just outside the right circle.

Humboldt would finally answer Harmon Laser Hume, when Tim Kim took a nice pass from Mathew Van Blairicom behind the Bombers net.

Once again the Bombers had a multi goal lead after two with the 3 to 1 lead.

Flin Flon was able to hold off Humboldt for much of the third until Tim Kim grabbed the puck in his own zone and flew down the ice beating Laser Hume with a nice wrist shot on the short side.

The Bombers baired down and did get a couple of empty netters from Ethan Mercer and Liam Bridger to pull out the 5 to 2 win.

Harmon Laser Hume has been exceptional in the two wins and has stopped 64 out of 69 shots.

Benjamin Motew has stopped 59 out of 65 in suffering his first two playoff losses.

Both powerplays have been good with Flin Flon 4 for 11 and Humboldt is 2 for 7 in the two games.

You can make that 7 straight playoff wins for the Bombers in Humboldt at the Elgar Petersen Arena and the Bombers are also 9-1 in their last 10 playoff meetings.

I certainly wouldn't  right off the Broncos just yet. They have had success at the Whitney Forum this year and were one of the best road teams in the regular season. Flin Flon will have to be ready as the Bronco's will need their best effort of the season.

Don't forget to get your tickets for Tuesday and Wednesday as the series shifts back to the Whitney Forum. You can pick up your tickets at the Bomber office on Main street tomorrow and Wednesday 1 to 5.

You can also catch all the action of games 3 and 4 of the SJHL Semi Final on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com with the pre-game at 7:10 both nights.
