It was a very strange way to win a hockey game, but the Flin Flon Bombers are off to the SJHL Semi- Finals.

 

The game was tied at one after 60 minutes and the Bombers got a huge break early in OT.

 

They would get an early powerplay when Kaelen Whittingham hauled down Jeremi Tremblay on his way to the Bruin net.

 

Estevan cleared the puck down the ice and looked like they might catch the Bombers with an odd man rush. Harmon Laser Hume raced out of the net and made a good pass to Cole Duperreault who then banked the puck off the boards at center ice , and Cam Hrdlicka came out anticipating the puck would go behind his net.

 

Well it didn't and it actually bounced into the open net stunning the Bruin netminder and the rest of the Estevan Bruins as the Bombers take game seven , 2 to 1 in OT. This was heartbreaking for the Bruins who played the Bombers very well and could of easilly won this game.

 

Ethan Mercer had the other goal for the Bombers in regulation and the Bruin Captain Kade Runke replied for Estevan with a nice partial break off the post and in.

 

The two goaltenders were the story once again and Flin Flon's  Harmon Laser Hume actually stopped Evan Forrest on a break away with just over 5 minutes remaining in regulation. Estevan was that close to winning last night's game  themselves.

 

Estevan who took gave 5 at the Whitney played their hearts out and nearly stole another one last night.

 

I take my hat off to the Bruins who played anything like a 6th place team and took the Bombers to the brink.

 

Cam Hrdlicka had one of the best performances I have ever seen in an SJHL playoff series and stopped over 100 shots in the last two games in Flin Flon alone.

 

He has nothing to hang his head about and will be one of the top goaltenders when he returns as a 20 year old next season.

 

The Bruins season comes to an end which means there will be a new SJHL Champion this year. Flin Flon moves on to face Humboldt with the best of 7 SJHL Semi- Final  final starting on Friday.
