Mustangs Double Up On Bombers

The Flin Flon Bombers lost for the  first time in regulation last night in their last 7  tries  as the Melfort Mustangs came to town and doubled the Bombers 6 to 3.

Melfort's best players played like it last night ,  as they were led by their captain Ben Tkachuk who  picked up  a pair of goals and continues to scorch the Bombers.

That is 6 points for Tkachuk against Flin Flon in the last two games.

Zac Somers also had a strong game with a goal and an assist.

The pass that Somers fed to Tye Evans was a picture of beauty as Harmon Laser Hume had no chance on the one timer.

The other Melfort goals came from Hayden Tuba and Ben Maxwell.

Flin Flon got their goals from Joey Lies (5), Reece Richmond (3) and Brock Mueller (4).

Mueller has been exceptional down the stretch and was able to score his goal by over powering the Melfort defenseman to get to the net and fired a shot low glove on Joel Favreau.

The Bombers battled hard at times last night, but I think their injury depleted line-up finally caught up with them against a really good team.

Final shots were 36 to 33 in favour of Melfort, with the Stangs 1 for 2 on the pp, and the Bombers 1 for 4.

I was informed just before last night's game that Zac Cain was injured at the end of the Nipawin game on Friday,  and will be out of the line-up for at least three weeks.

So that means the Bombers now have 7 regulars out of the line-up including their top 6 scorers. I have never seen devastating injuries  hit a team like I have this season.

There is some good news as the Bombers should get at least a few back in time for playoffs.

After last night's loss, Flin Flon will fall to 36-14-2-2 and lost at home for just the fourth time in regulation all season.

The Bombers still sit second overall, one point up on Humboldt, but the Broncos have four games remaining. The Bombers only have two.

This was a huge win for Melfort who move two points up on Laronge for fourth overall. The Mustangs only have one game left while the Wolves play two.

If Laronge wins both games against Flin Flon  this weekend, they will clinch fourth overall and own the tie breaker.

Flin Flon heads to Laronge on Friday and will host the Wolves on Saturday as we close out the SJHL regular season.

Don't forget you can catch both games right here on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com,  with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and drop of the puck at 7:30.
