Bombers Drop Heartbreaker In Humboldt

The undermanned Flin Flon Bombers made their way to Humboldt last night for a wednseday showdown at the Elgar Petersen Arena with the Bronco's.

The Bombers came in riding a high with 4 straight wins including a 4 to 1 win in Yorkton a night earlier.

Flin Flon had also retaken second overall, with a two point cushion over the Bronco's with Humboldt having two games in hand.

The Bombers knew thay would have to be at their best against one of the deepest teams in the league which haven't lost a game at home since December the 14th.

It was a valiant effort, but the Bombers came up just a little bit short with a 3 to 2 setback in the shootout.

Brock Mueller scored both Bomber goals without actually shooting the puck in the net.

The first goal bounced off Bronco goalie Benjamim Motew and then deflected off one of his own players. The second goal was actually scored by Reese Richmond who fired a shot off the boards that trickled behind Motew and was across the line before Mueller swatted it in.

The two Bronco goals in regulation were scored by Ethan Zielke and Daylan Weigel.

Flin Flon looked poised to keep their winning streak intact after tieing the game midway through the third period , but couldn't solve Motew the rest of the game.

The game made it to overtime but both teams could only muster one shot a piece.

The shootout came along and both Bronco's buried their chances with Cage Newans and Timothy Kim both beating Harmon Laser Hume.

Motew stopped both Bomber shooters, Alexi Sylveste and Noah Houle.

Final shots were 28 to 24 in favour of the Broncos. Flin Flon couldn't get much going on their powerplay and wound up 0 for 4. Humboldt was 1 for 2.

The good news is with the one point, the Bombers still hang on to second with 74 points. The Bonco's have 73 but do have two games in hand.

Just 4 games remaining in the regular season with the Bombers hosting the Nipawin Hawks in a big game this Friday at the Whitney Forum.

No broadcast of this game on radio but we will be on Hockey TV.
