Bombers Impressive At The Cage

A very undermanned  Flin Flon Bomber unit made their way to the Centennial Arena in Nipawin last night for a key Sherwood Division clash.

The Bombers had 6 regulars out of the line-up including Cole Duperreault, Jeremi Tremblay, Matt Egan, Jacob Vockler, Jaeden Mercier and Cole Tanchuk.

Mike Reagan spoke on the CFAR Pre-Game Show from Nipawin last night and said it was time for other guys to step up.

That is exactly what happened as Brent Gulenchyn scored a late first period goal and the Bombers never looked back in a hard fought 6 to 4 win.

It was a big night for Alexi Sylvestre and Noah Houle who both scored a pair of goals.

Both of Houle's goals  came on the powerplay as he was able to get to the slot and score a couple of nice snap-shots low stick side on  Hawk netminder Jackson Fellner.

Ethan Mercer scored the other Bomber goal as he found the empty net with just over a minute left in regulation to give Flin Flon the big insurance goal.

The Nipawin goals came from Alex Ochitwa, Francois Xavier Bedard and two from Carson Dobson.

Both powerplays were sizzling with the Hawks going 3 for 5 and the Bombers finished up 2 for 4.

Harmon Laser Hume beat his former team for the fourth time and now has 24 wins on the season. He stopped 20 out of 24. His counterpart Jackson Fellner took the loss making 18 saves on 24 shots.

This is a big two points for the Bombers who improve to 32-13-2-1 and have pulled to within two points of Humboldt for second overall.

Flin Flon will also get a bit more breathing room on Laronge and Melfort. The Bombers now lead the Wolves by 4 points and the Mustangs by 5.

Nipawin remains tied with Weyburn for 7th with 49 points and both teams have played 48 games.

Speaking of Weyburn, they will finally make their way to the Whitney Forum for a pair of games this weekend. They are playing good hockey and are 6-2-2 in their last 10.

They also beat the Bombers in their last meeting 4 to 1 back on February the 9th.

The Bombers have been red hot in February and improve to 6-2 and only have 8 games remaining in the regular season.

You can catch Saturday's game here on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com including the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10.
