Heartbreak In Kindersley

It has to be the toughest loss this season for the Flin Flon Bombers,  who dropped a 3 to 2 decision last night to the last place Kindersley Klippers.

Kindersley entered last night with 7 straight losses and are on the verge of officially being eliminated from the post season.

I thought the Klippers played well in a 4 to 2 loss against the Bombers the night before and just wern't able to convert a lot of Bomber mistakes.

Last night they got the breaks and took advantage of some really bad miscues by the much more talented Bombers.

The game winner last night was one of the strangest goals I have seen in years. After the Bombers coughed up the puck at their own blue line, Adam Paplawski was able to race down the ice on a break away.

Bomber goalie  Kenny Marquart made a great save, as Paplawski fired a shot off his left arm. The rebound went to the corner and every Bomber just froze on the ice, and Paplawski grabbed his own rebound and came to the front of the net and put a shot in just under the bar.

Marquart and every other Flin Flon player seemed to lose sight of where the puck actually was. Give Paplawski credit, he didn't give up on the play and that proved to be the game winner.

Flin Flon didn't quit and were all over the Klippers for much of the third period,  but Kindersley goalie Logan Falk was simply amazing and stopped all 19 third period shots and 40 overall.

This was really a big night for Falk who hadn't started a game in over a month.

Jaeden Mercier scored both Bomber goals to give him 12 on the season and he was their best offensive forward on the trip. In the three games which also included a 5 to 2 loss in Humboldt on Thursday, Mercier scored 4 of the 8 Bomber goals.

Jeremi Tremblay scored two on the trip with singles coming from Jacob Vockler and Zach Cain scored his first as a Bomber on Friday.

The secondary offense has really dried up and the Bombers didn't play one single complete game on the trip and wasted a really good chance last night to pick up some more points.

Flin Flon remains in second overall, but the gap is really closing.Flin Flon has 49 points, but Estevan is just 1 point behind with 48 and Laronge and Humboldt have 47.

The Broncos, Bruins and Wolves all won last night. Estevan is the first team to beat Battleford in regulation as they blanked the first place Stars 5 to 0.

The Bombers will get a chance for a little rest as they will only play one game this week as they host Notre Dame on Saturday. The Hounds are another desperate team and are battling for the last playoff spot.

Notre Dame trails Weyburn by 1 point but do have 3 games in hand. They will throw everything at the Bombers this weekend and have won some big games at the Whitney Forum before.

Flin Flon will be looking for a bounce back game and have to find a way to stop making bad mistakes which are costing them goals.

You will be able to tune in to all the action on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com. We kick things off with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and puck drop at 7:30.
