Duperreault Does It Again

Another big game for Cole Duperreault who picked up his second hat-trick in less than  a week, and helped the Flin Flon Bombers collect a big win.

The Bombers were trying to make good on a tough loss to the Melfort Mustangs the night before.

It wasn't easy,  but the Bombers pulled out the 5 to 4 win in OT in the rematch Saturday.

Zac Somers gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead midway through the first and that held up til the third.

The two teams came out like gangbusters and combined for 7 goals in the final period.  Duperreault led the way for Flin Flon  with a pair, his 17th and 18th of the year.

Jaxon Martens scored his 9th and Jeremi Tremblay his 13th.

It looked like the Bombers would win it in regulation with a 4 to 2 lead late in the third.

Like I have said many times, the Melfort Mustangs are a good team and play well at the Whitney Forum. With the goalie pulled, Melfort scored twice in the final 3 minutes courtesy of  Zac Somers and Ryan Duguay.

That was Somers second of the game and third of the weekend.

It was off to OT, and the Bombers were determined that they would not let this one slip away.

Jeremi Tremblay continues to impress every single game and took the puck up the ice and fought off two Melfort defenders. He got behind the Melfort net and made the pass out front to Cole Duperreault who did the rest blowing the shot past James Venne.

This would complete the hat-trick and give Duperreault his league leading 19th of the season.

Flin Flon gets the two points and improve to 16-6-2-1. They also take over sole possesion of first place in the Sherwood with 35 points.

That is two more than Laronge, but the Wolves have a game in hand. Melfort picks up 3 out of 4 points on the weekend and are starting to challenge with 29 points.

The Bombers will be back on the road this weekend in Melville and Yorkton, this Friday and Saturday.

102.9 CFAR and will have both games starting with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 both nights.
