Bombers Pull Out 2 to 1 Win in Melfort

The Flin Flon Bombers battled the elements and Melfort Mustangs enroute to their fourth straight win at the Northern Lights  Palace last night.

Flin Flon battled good ole mother nature including some freezing rain but made it to Melfort and played a heck of a first period enroute to the 2 to 1 win.

The Bombers came out and out shot the Mustangs 13 to 6 and picked up the only goal when Jaeden Mercier picked up a rebound off of James Venne's pad.

That would stand up til early in the third , when Wyatt Cook was left alone in front of the Mustangs net and wired his fourth past Venne just under the cross bar.

Melfort would pull closer with a nice effort from Jacob Hufty, when he streaked past the Bomber defense and went in alone and tucked a shot under Laser Hume's pad.

It looked like the Bombers would restore the two goal lead when Jeremi Tremblay appeared to score his 9th, but the goal was called off for goalie interference.

Things then went from bad to worse when Cole Duperreault was called for a 5 minute major for abuse of an official.

I did see the video and it appears that he did catch the official with his stick but did not  look intentional to me. We will see what the league office has to say.

This put the Bombers down for 5 minutes late in the game with a one goal lead. Flin Flon managed to percevere and killed off the major due to some big saves from Hunter Laser Hume.

Laser Hume looked calm and was lights out once again for his 9th win of the year and ended up with 33 saves.

The Bombers fired 26 shots at James Venne who was making a rare start for Joel Favreau who wasn't dressed.

Flin Flon leads the season series two games to none and these teams will meet in a home and home later this month, November the 25th and 26th.

A good way to kick off a 8 day break for Flin Flon who improve to 12-3-1-1 and lead Laronge  by 5 points for first place in the Sherwood Division.

The Bombers won't play again til next Thursday and Friday when Yorkton comes to town.

Melfort slips to 7-8-4-0 and they don't play til next Friday.
