Offensive Woes Continue

A decent effort from the Flin Flon Bombers, but they are still struggling to find the back of the net early in the SJHL season.

Laronge made their way to the Whitney Forum on Friday and pulled out the 2 to 1 shootout victory.

It was a good start for the Bombers when returning defenseman Cory King was able to fire a nice snap shot,  over the right shoulder of Dawson Smith to give Flin Flon a 1 to 0 lead after 1.

Laronge answered with a goal of their own on the powerplay early in the second,  when Dylan Handel grabbed a loose puck back of the Bomber net and beat Laser Hume with the wrap around.

That was all the offense for the rest of regulation and OT, as both goalies did their job.

The Wolves dominated the shootout with both Dylan Handel and Ethan Strik scoring on their chances. Dawson Smith stopped both Bomber shooters, Jaeden Mercier and Cole Duperreault.

Flin Flon's record will drop to 1-1-1 and have only scored 5 goals in the 3 games. 4 of the goals courtesy of Cole Duperreault.

It was nice to see Cory King score his first ever SJHL goal and he has really stepped up his play and is one of the best Bomber blueliners so far  this season.

Final shots were 43 to 32  in the Bombers favour. Dawson Smith looks like one of the top tenders in the league and didn't give Flin Flon much.

Next up for the Maroon and White express is the SJHL Showcase in Warman.

Normally , you would think the Bombers could snap out of their funk by playing Weyburn and Melville, but both those teams have improved immensely this year.

Weyburn just beat the defending league champs, Estevan 9 to 2 on Friday.

Flin Flon will play Weyburn tonight at 8:30 MB time and face the Mills at 2:30 MB time tomorrow.

Next action at the Whitney Forum will be this Saturday when Nipawin comes to town.
