Bombers Prepare For The Quarters

We are just a few hours away from the biggest game of the season for the Flin Flon Bombers.

The Quarter Finals will begin at 2022 Centennial Cup and the Bombers have a date with the Pickering Panthers.

Flin Flon enters this afternoons contest with a record of 1-2-1 and finished third in pool B, while the Panthers finished with a record of 2-1-1 and ended up second in pool A.

It is win or go home and the Bombers will once again be led by the goaltending heroics of Cal Schell who has continued his brilliant play at the National Championship.

Schell comes into todays game with the third best g.a.a in the tournament at 1.96 and second best save % at .927.

Xavier Lapointe has also been impressive and was named the top defenseman in the tournament and leads the Bombers with 5 points in 4 games including 3 goals.

If Flin Flon is going to advance to the Semi Finals they will need to play a solid 60 minutes like they did against Dauphin in their 2 to 1 OT win on Tuesday.

That means limiting turn overs, staying out of the box, good specialtry teams and keeping their composure. Pickering is very feisty and like to draw teams into penaltys.

They have played very chippy and have taken a whopping 31minor penaltys in the 4 preliminary games. They really like to engage with teams after the whistle and can suck the opposition into playing that type of game.

They can also score and have 3 players in the top 10 in tournament scoring including Dustin Hutton who has 12 points including 5 goals. Hutton is second over all just 1 point behind tournament leader Ryan McAllister of Brooks.

We will continue to have all your Flin Flon Bomber Centennial Cup coverage from beautiful Affinity Place in Estevan, so don't forget to tune in today with a special pre game show at 4:40 and puck drop at 5 Manitoba time.
