Over Time Magic

It wasn't the prettiest of games but the Flin Flon Bombers managed to be on the right side of a 3 to 2 OT score against the Ottawa Junior Senators yesterday.

Flin Flon came into yesterday's game with some momentum after a convincing 6 to 1 win over the Soo Thunderbirds to open the Centennial Cup on Tuesday.

For the second straight game the Bombers started slow and gave up the first goal just 2:40 into the opening period.

Massimo Gentile converted on an early power play to give the Senators just their second goal of the tournament.

Flin Flon would settle down and got rewarded with a power play goal of their own when Jaeden Mercier banked in a loose puck in front of the Sen's net.

That would hold up til early in the third when Gentile scored his second of the game capitalizing on a Bomber give away inside their own zone to put Ottawa up 2 to 1.

It looked like that might be enough with the Bombers struggling to get going offensively. Flin Flon was being out shot 25 to 14 through two periods.

Once again  some one stepped up and it was three year vet Matt Raymond, who jumped on a puck in the corner and threw it to the front of the net and it bounced off the post fooling Sens goalie William Demarais.

This sent the Bombers and their fans into a frenzy. The rest of the third solved nothing and we would see 3 on 3 over time for the first time in the tournament.

Flin Flon was coming off their best period of the game and had all the momentum heading into 3 on 3.

It only took 21 seconds to decide it when Drew Kuzma won the faceoff, took off down the ice and made a perfect drop pass to Xavier Lapointe who went in all alone and beat Desmarais.

This was Lapointe's first of the Centennial Cup and one of the biggest goals of his career as Flin Flon  got the important win in OT.

The Bombers shocked the number 4 team in the country and improved to 2-0 with a very exciting come from behind win.

Ottawa falls to a surprising 0-2 and have just 3 goals in 2 games.

Cal Schell was the best player on the ice and stopped 31 out of 33 shots and was once again the games first star.

Flin Flon will enjoy today off and get ready for the Summerside Capitals on Monday  who won their opening game over the Soo 4 to 1.

Summerside is facing Dauphin today at 4.
