Bombers Find Their Offensive Touch

In a game that the Bombers absolutely had to win , the team found their offensive mojo once again in a 5 to 3 win against the Ice Wolves on Saturday.

Entering Saturday, the Bombers had dropped 6 of their last 8 games including a 4 to 1 setback in Laronge on Friday night.

In their last 9 games the Bombers were only able to muster 20 goals, so just a little more than 2 a game.

Saturday it looked like the Wolves were on their way to the weekend sweep when they scored just 8 minutes into the opening period.

Parker Fofonoff picked up just his 2nd of the season to open the scoring.

Flin Flon would answer when Cole Duperreault fired home his 17th of the season on the PP.

Laronge came back less than a minute later when Bryan Gilman scored his 5th when he jammed a rebound past Cal Schell.

The turning point for me was Xavier Lapointe scoring to tie the game with just over a minute remaining in the first with a perfect shot off the post.

Drew Kuzma won the face off and dropped a picture perfect pass to Lapointe who was able to score his league leading 18th among defensemen.

That was the momentum the Bombers needed and they came out flying and got rewarded with 3 goals in the second.

Zac Smith became the first Bomber to hit 20 goals this season as he scored just 28 seconds in.

Cole Duperreault picked up his second of the night and 18th of the year and Brett Wieschorster also scored,  burying his 8th.

With a 5 to 2 lead going into the third, Flin Flon held the fort and gave up just one goal late when Brandon Della Paolera was able to jam a loose puck over Cal Schell in a goal line scramble.

The Wolves had the goalie pulled and managed to get a lot of pressure but could only muster the one goal.

Cal Schell finished up with 24 saves to secure his 25th win of the season.

Dawson Smith was the busier of the two goalies and stopped 42 shots in the loss.

A much needed win for the Bombers who win the season series against the Wolves 6-3-1.

The win also propells the Bombers to fourth overall at 34-18-2-1. They trail third place Melfort by 2 points with a game in hand and lead Battleford by 1 point with the Stars having a game in hand.

The schedule makers couldn't of done a better job with Flin Flon having 3 games remaining against the two teams that they are directly battling with for thid spot.

Flin Flon will close out with a home and home against the Mustangs Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday at the Whitney Forum and back to Melfort on Thursday.

Friday,  they play their last game in the Battlefords to close out the regular season.

We will broadcast the two road games on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com beginning both nights with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10.
