Schell Makes History

Cal Schell made a couple of big saves late last night in Nipawin and ended up with 29 total for one of the biggest wins of his career.

Schell now stands alone in the Bomber record books as he picked up the franchise record for shutouts in a season with 7.

Cal and Zac Robidoux were tied with 6 heading into last night's game. Robidoux accomplished the feat in 2016-17 and has the all time mark of 11 for a career.

It was awesome to see the final seconds count down and the team race on the ice to hug and congratulate their team mate.

Schell was returning from an injury that sidelined him for the last week and he was his usual dominant self and picked up  his 24th win of the season.

Jacob Vockler opened up the scoring just 4:24 into the opening period with his 14th of the season which stood up as the game winner.

The Bomber specialty teams took over and Zac Smith scored his 18th and 19th of the year on the PP, with Dew Kuzma scoring a short handed goal to seal it  4-0.

This was a big win for the Maroon and White who hit the win column for just the second time in their last 7.

The Bombers take the season series against the Hawks 6 to2 and won all 4 meetings at the Cage this year. I don't recall that ever happening before.

Flin Flon reclaims third overall with a record of 33-17-2-2, 69 points which is one more than Battleford. The Stars have a game in hand.

A big test for the Bombers this weekend who will take on their arch rivals the Laronge Ice Wolves in a home and home, Friday and Saturday.

This could still be a first round playoff preview and if the playoffs were to start today they would meet in the first round.

Listen in to both games this weekend on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 both nights.
