Hounds 3 Bombers 2

It looked like the Flin Flon Bombers were on their way to an important victory Saturday at the Whitney Forum.

Drew Kuzma scored just 1:39 into the opening period as the Bombers grabbed the quick 1-0 lead on the Notre Dame Hounds.

Kevin Anderson who is ranked by NHL Central Scouting tied it on a nice set up from Connor Nolan and Trey Taylor.

Flin Flon would once again take the lead on a nice effort from Gabriel Shipper who got to the front of the net to slip a back hander past Austin Elliot.

The Bombers were up 2 to 1 after 1 and looked to be in good shape but the offense once again dried up.

It was the Hounds the rest of the way,  as they tied the game midway through the second courtesy of Will Dawson who scored a strange goal outside the left circle.

That stood up til the midway point of the third when Landon Peterson jumped on a rebound to beat Ben Montgomery low stick side for the game winner. The Hounds held on for a 3 to 2 win and took 3 of the 4 meetings this season.

Flin Flon did press,  and with the goalie pulled got some great chances late in the game to tie it. Austin Elliot would not break and made 49 saves and once again was the difference in the game.

Ben Montgomery stopped 24 shots and suffered the loss.

Notre Dame entered the road trip on Friday in 9th spot but played some great hockey and won all 3 games including a 7 to 3 win in Laronge yesterday.

The Hounds are now in 8th with 53 points and are 5 up on Kindersley with a game in hand. They have 6 games left while the Klippers have 5.

Kindersley would have to win their last 5 while the Hounds would pretty much have to lose all their remaining games to miss the post season.

It looks like a good bet that Notre Dame will get the final playoff spot.

The Bombers continue to struggle and have lost 5 of their last 6 and find themselves in fourth place, one point behind Battleford.

The Stars are playing good hockey and are 6-4 in their last 10. Melfort has quietly moved into a tie with the Bombers for fourth with  67 points and  Flin Flon having a game in hand.

The good thing is the Bombers still have two games against the Mustangs and will close out the regular season in Battleford. Flin Flon can control their own destiny.

It will be a big week with the Bombers off to Nipawin tomorrow and a home and home with Laronge on the weekend.

All 3 games will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
