Big Rebound Win Over The Hawks

The Flin Flon Bombers were able to snap a 4 game losing streak last night with a great effort against the Nipawin Hawks for a 6 to 2 victory.

The Bombers were back at home and needed a confidence builder after a tough road trip which saw them get out scored 9 to 5 in the three games.

Flin Flon were the better team and really could of came home with all 6 points but could not bury on the majority of their scoring  chances.

Head Coach and GM, Mike Reagan mentioned that they needed an early goal to get some confidence and that is exactly what happened.

Jaeden Mercier scored just 1:06 into the game and the Bombers got some swagger early.

Drew Kuzma continues to impress in a Bomber uniform and he picked up his 15th when he re-directed an Xavier Lapointe shot from inside the blue line to make it 2 zip.

Give the Hawks credit, they did battle back to tie it on goals from Rylan Lefebvre and Joel Mabin on the PP.

Flin Flon didn't panic and went on to score 4 straight including a pair from Jaxon Martens who has taken over the team lead with 19.

The other goals came from Kylynn Olafson (4) and Rylan Thiessen (4).

Ben Montgomery once again got the start for Cal Schell who remains out with an injury and did his job stopping 16 out of 18 for his fourth win in a Bomber uniform.

The Bombers fired 41 shots at the Nipawin goalies Laser Hume Harmon and Chase Hamm.

Hamm came in relief of Laser Hume after the Bombers jumped out 5 to 2 late in the second period.

The Bombers are back in the win column and now sit at 32-16-2-1. It was a very important 2 points with both the Battleford Stars and Melfort Mustangs on their heels for third overall.

Battleford beat Weyburn last night, so they sit just 1 point behind  Flin Flon with a game in hand. Melfort is 4 back and both teams have played 51 games.

Next up,  will be a hungry Notre Dame team who make their way to the Whitney Forum on Saturday in pursuit of the last overall playoff spot.

The Hounds are 9th and one point back of Kindersley with 3 games in hand.

Notre Dame has taken 2 out of the 3 meetings this season. Game time will be 7:30.
