Jacob Vockler picked up his first career SJHL hat-trick on Saturday and the Bombers doubled the Battleford Stars 6 to 3 to sweep the weekend series.

 

Vockler now has 14 goals on the season. The other goals were scored by Drew Kuzma (13), Cole Duperreault (15) and Zak Smith (16).

 

Flin Flon shows no signs of slowing down and put forth an incredible effort in securing both victories against a strong Battleford team.

 

Ben Montgomery was a surprize starter and played another solid game stopping 26 shots for his third win in a Bomber uniform.

 

Battleford got their goals from Steven Kesserling, Holden Doell and Dylan Esau. Michael Harroch returned between the pipes and gave up 6 goals on 50 shots.

 

Cal Schell was the big story on Friday stopping all 36 shots fired in his direction for his 6th shut-out of the season for a 4-0 win. It is now official,  as he has tied the Bomber record for shut-outs in a season with Zac Robidoux who did it in the 2016-17 season.

 

Robidoux also has the record for shut-outs all time with 11. What makes that even more impressive is he did it in only 73 career starts.

 

Schell still has a few more games to break the record as Flin Flon has 12 games remaining in the season.

 

Xavier Lapointe led the way with a pair of goals and has 17 on the season and is tied for the team lead with Jaxon Martens. He is also the only defenseman in the league in double figures in goals.

 

After the weekend the Bombers remain third overall at 31-12-2-1 and lead the fourth place Melfort Mustangs by 7 points with 2 games in hand.

 

Flin Flon is 9 points behind second place Humboldt with 3 games in hand.

 

It will be another busy week with Nipawin coming to town Tuesday before the Bombers hit the road for three starting Friday in Melville.

 

The trip will also include afternoon games in Yorkton Saturday at 2 and Battleford Sunday at 4.
