The Flin Flon Bombers were just over 5 minutes away from winning their second straight on their southern road trip last night in Wilcox.

 

The Bombers had the Notre Dame  Hounds down 3 to 1 late in the third period but couldn't hang on and dropped a 4 to 3 decision in OT.

 

After a scoreless first period, Johno Hoins put the Hounds up 1-0 before Flin Flon stormed back with 3 straight courtesy of Drew Kuzma (11), Jaeden Mercier (12) and Brett Wieschorster (7).

 

Flin Flon looked like they had the game in hand with the two goal lead and were handily out shooting the Hounds but things quickly changed.

 

Nolen Coventry scored around the 13 minute mark and the Hounds continued to press and got a late 5 on 3  in the game.

 

Down 2 men and the big ice surface in Wilcox, the Bombers coudn't fight the Hounds off and they tied it when one of their best players Nik Sombrowski found the back of the net.

 

Notre Dame took all the momentum and eventually scored in OT when Elliot Dutill got a rebound behind Ben Montgomery.

 

Both goalies were spectacular with Austin Elliot stopping 45 out of 48 and was the big reason that his team was able to stay in the game.

 

Ben Montgomery suffered the loss for Flin Flon but made some big saves, blocking 32 out of 36.

 

The Hounds caught fire mid-way through the third and ended up out shooting the Bombers 20 to 2 the rest of the way including OT.

 

Flin Flon will still get a point and their record is now 28-11-2-1 and lead the Melfort Mustangs by 3 points for first in the Sherwood and third overall. The Bombers also have 2 games in hand,

 

The Hounds are now 17-18-3-2 and picked up a very big 2 points as they have leap frogged Kindersley for the final playoff spot.

 

Flin Flon will enjoy a much needed day off before resuming the trip in Estevan tomorrow and finishing up in Weyburn Saturday.
