Trip Off To A Great Start

The Flin Flon Bombers only managed to fire 20 shots at the Yorkton net but still pulled off a 4 to 1 win last night to start the southern road trip in style.

After a scoreless first period, the Bombers beat starting goalie Kael Depape 3 times in a span of about 6 minutes in the second period.

Martens and Mercier would both score on break aways and captain Zac Smith scored his 14th on the PP.

Flin Flon was very opportunistic and took advantage of the few offensive chances that they did get.

Jaeden Mercier would get his second of the game just 1:27 into the final period to put the game out of reach at 4-0.

The Terriers did break Cal Schell's shutout a few minutes later when Zack McIntire redirected a puck shot from just inside the blue line.

Schell continues to have a great season and stopped 31 shots for his 21st win of the season. Only Rayce Ramsay from Humboldt has won more games.

This was a big win for lots of reasons. They get some much needed momentum to start the long trip and they are once again first place in the Sherwood Division.

Flin Flon will improve to 28-11-1-1 and lead Melfort by 2 points with 3 games in hand. They also sit third overall.

Yorkton will fall to 20-18-1-4 and continue to battle with Laronge for 6th overall.

The Bombers have beaten the Terriers in all 3 meetings this year.

The road trip will continue in Notre Dame tonight and will be an 8pm start. The two teams have split the two meetings so far with the Hounds winning on home ice back on October the 22nd 4 to 2. Flin Flon beat them at the Whitney Forum 9 to 3 on November the 13th.

Join Mike Stackhouse for the call tonight beginning with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:45 and drop of the puck at 8 on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
