Heartbreak In Humboldt

The Flin Flon Bombers were just over 6 minutes away yesterday from taking 4 points out of Humboldt.

After a gutsy 3 to 2 win on Saturday a depleted Bomber line-up played their hearts out yesterday to only come up a little short.

Flin Flon looked good early building up a 2-0 lead early in the second period on goals from Jeremi Tremblay his 10th and Mackenzie Carson his 2nd.

The Bronco's would get their act together and tied the game when two of the top point getters in the league,  Saretzky and Perkins found the back of the net before the period was over.

Flin Flon continued to battle and Nathan Gagne scored a nice one timer to restore the lead early in the third.

Humboldt once again battled back just minutes later when Mckinnon snuck a shot through a maze of players in front of the Bomber net. Cal Schell never saw it.

Flin Flon would get their final lead of the afternoon taking advantage of a 5 minute major penalty to Landon Stromme who decided to run Matt Egan from behind.

Cole Duppereault would score his team leading 12th of the season when he banked in a rebound on Race Ramsay to put the Bombers up 4 to 3.

That seemed to give Flin Flon back the momentum, but the Broncos who had lost their last 2 games were determined not to make it 3.

Humboldt would tie it late when Eric Nicksha buried a shot from the slot with just over 3 minutes remaining in the game.

I thought we were going to get it to OT, but the officials had other ideas and called a terrible penalty on Bomber defenseman Reece Richmond for holding.

Humboldt took advantage and scored with just 30 seconds left in regulation when Saretzky scored his second of the day from a tough angle on Cal Schell to win the game 5 to 4.

Despite the loss, I thought the Bombers showed a lot on the weekend and proved that they are in the same category as the Broncos, Bruins and Stars and are one of the top teams in the league.

Give Humboldt credit they were down most of the game but found a way to come back and get it done.

The Bombers now sit at 17-8 and continue to sit first in the Sherwood Division and fourth over all.

The Broncos are a league best 20-7 and are the first team to hit 40 points.

Both Cole Vardy and Matt Egan were injured in yesterday's game when Vardy was high sticked by Connor Casparie and Egan was run from behind by Landon Stromme.

Their status is unknown.

These two teams will get to go at each other again this weekend as they will switch venues and play a pair at the Whitney Forum this Friday and Saturday.

Friday's game will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
