One of the best North/ South rivalries will be rekindled tonight at the Whitney Forum.

 

The Flin Flon Bombers will host the Estevan Bruins in a pair of games this weekend.

 

This will be a fantastic match-up with both teams playing great hockey.

 

The Bombers are 7-3 in their last 10 and are coming off a weekend where they out scored the Melfort Mustangs and Notre Dame Hounds 14 to 3.

 

Flin Flon has also been lights out at the Whitney Forum with a record of 9-1.

 

Estevan continues to be one of the league's top clubs and enters the weekend at 15-4-0-1 and their 31 points has them in second spot overall.

 

The Bruins are 9-1 in their last 10 and beat the Bombers in their only meeting 3 to 1 on October the 20th. Flin Flon did have a 1-0 lead entering the third period that night.

 

Both teams can score with Estevan second in goals for with 89, 1 behind the Battleford Stars. Flin Flon sits fourth overall with 81.

 

This will be a great goaltending battle with the Bomber's Cal Schell leading the league in shut outs with 4 and currently sits second in save % at .937.

 

Estevan's Boston Bilous is second in  the league in wins with 11 and the best goals against at 1.82.  He also has a very good save % at .933

 

The Bruins are also blessed with lots of great offensive weapons including Mark Rumsey who leads the league in points with 35. They have 5 players in the top 15 scorers.

 

Estevan will host the Centennial Cup in May and continue to add lots of gifted players to their roster. They just scooped up 19 year old forward Jamie Valentino from Swan River to bolster the line-up.

 

This is always a great battle when these two teams meet and their battles date all the way back to the 60's when they were in the WCHL. I always remember their Remembrance Day brawl from 1997 and the famous sponge puck incident from 2000.
