Mustangs 7 Bombers 3

Specialty teams were the name of the game last night as the Melfort Mustangs erupted for 5 powerplay goals enroute to a 7 to 3 win over the Flin Flon Bombers.

It is usually the Bomber power play which is the difference but not last night as the Mustangs took advantage of two 5 on 3's and a 4 on 3 to go 5 for 7.

Flin Flon did manage one powerplay goal by Xavier Lapointe who collected his 6th of the season in last night's loss.

The Mustangs were able to get their goals from 7 different players including Ty Albrecht, Seth McCullough, Curtis Hammond, Ben Tkachuk, Tye Evans, Tye Sherger and Boston Maxwell.

The other Flin Flon goals were scored by Jaxon Martens and Matt Egan who scored the prettiest goal of the night.

They say you always remember your first goal and Egan's first ever goal was a nice tic tac toe passing play with Gabriel Shipper.

It was a short handed goal with Shipper feeding the nice saucer pass to Egan who one timed a low shot,  stick side on Joel Favreau for one of the few bright spots.

The Bombers contnue to battle injuries and a tough blow as starting goalie Cal Schell has gone on the shelf with an undisclosed injury.

Flin Flon does expect him back after their break.

Max Hildebrand got the call in Schell's absence and ened up stopping 31 out of 38.

A big win for the Mustangs who have moved to within one point of the Bombers for top spot in the Sherwood.

Flin Flon is 12-6 and the Mustangs are now 11-6-0-1.

The Bombers will now get a much deserved break where they won't play for 9 days when they return home a week from Friday to face those same Melfort Mustangs.
