Bombers Back On The Ice

After a 5 day hiatus the Flin Flon Bombers are ready to get back on the ice tonight against the Yorkton Terriers.

Puck drop is 7:30 tonight at the Whitney Forum.

This will be the second meeting of the season as these two teams squared off at  the Showcase with the Bombers winning 1-0 on a controversial goal.

The puck hit the cross bar and apparently did not cross the goal line but the Bombers were awarded the goal anyway.

These type of things tend to average out as I remember lots of calls going the other way against the Bombers through out the years.

Flin Flon continues to play good hockey and lead the overall SJHL standings with a record of 11-5. They lead the second place Humboldt Broncos by 2 points and the third place Estevan Bruins and Melfort Mustangs by 3.

How ever,  all these teams do have games in hand so the Bombers will need a good effort tonight.

The Bombers are led offensively by Jaxon Martens who is the teams's leading scorer with 17 points in 16 games including 6 goals.

Martens is making up for the lost season last year and looks to be finding his offensive touch from his Saskatchewan Midget Triple A  days.

His final season saw him put up 38 points in 43 games including 16 goals.

Cole Duperreault, who was also a prolific scorer in Triple A is also in the top 20 in league scoring with 14 points in 16 games. He leads the team in goals with 9.

The veteran,  Jaeden Mercier who is one of 4 players left from their team from two years ago is enjoying a career season with 16 points in 14 games.

All in all,  Flin Flon can depend on someone different to score every night as they appear to have 4 deep lines.

The Terriers come to town with a 2 game winning streak and are 5-5 in their last 10.

Yorkton's problem has been that they have struggled to score with just 31 goals in their first 13 games. Weyburn is the only team that score' s less.

They are one of the better defensive teams in the league with 34 against, ranking them second best.

No matter what go's down,  you will have the best seat in the house as we will have the broadcast tonight on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com .

It all starts with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:15 and drop of the puck at 7:30.
